The Food from Thought-funded paper, “The Politics of Digital Agricultural Technologies: A Preliminary Review,” published in Sociologia Ruralis, is among the journals’ top 10 most downloaded papers.
Among others, the paper is authored by Food from Thought’s Scientific Director Dr. Evan Fraser, funded researcher Dr. Rozita Dara, and 2019 HQP scholar Emily Duncan.
This review draws from critical social sciences to examine the political factors and challenges that result from agricultural technologies. The three main issues discussed include: (1) data ownership and control, (2) the production of technologies and data development, and (3) data security.
This article intends to contribute to policy and decision-making discussions to lend a political and economic lens to agri-food digitalization discussions.
