Krishna Gelda, a master’s student working on principal investigator Jeffrey Farber’s Food from Thought-supported research, has won the award for best oral student presentation at the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) – European Symposium.
Krishna’s winning talk was titled “Characterizing the Diversity of Bacterial Communities from Imported Date Fruits to Control Listeria monocytogenes,” for the Student Competition. Over 400 food safety professionals attended the Symposium, which took place in France in late April.
Krishna’s work is being funded by Food from Thought and the Canada First Research Excellence Fund. Dr. Farber is currently a Professor in the Department of Food Science, as well as the Director of the Canadian Research Institute for Food Safety.
