Role: Conference Bursary Recipient

Department: Animal Biosciences

Conference Attended: American Dairy Science Association Annual Meeting 2022

Location: Kansas City, MO, USA

Value: $3,000.00

Research Presentation:

My current research focuses on the effects of supplementing colostrum after the first day of life to Holstein dairy calves. This relates to FFT objectives of improving health and welfare of livestock as it was been found to improve health and growth factors, and may potentially show a reduction in antimicrobials and other interventions needed. It also relates to the objectives of sustainably increasing production (increasing growth through a more natural feeding system) and increasing profitability (decreasing mortality and antimicrobial usage).

Objectives for Attending:

In attending this conference I would like to gain invaluable experience in presenting my research, gaining practice in public speaking and gaining the insight of a wide array of industry and academic professionals. I would also like to gain contacts and network with other students and professionals who I would likely not have the opportunity to meet without this conference. Finally, I also look forward to learning about what other labs, Universities, and countries are doing in the field of dairy research, and using this information to strengthen my own knowledge and research.
